David Yager is semi-retired oil service executive and entrepreneur. Since 1970 he has worked in multiple oil service sector segments and from 1987 to 2012 was a founder, senior office and director of three successful TSX-listed oil service companies. From 2012 to 2016 he served as National Leader Oilfield Services for MNP LLP, a leading Canadian tax, accounting and consulting provider.
As Chairman of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada in 2009/2010 and in conjunction with the Canadian Energy Research Institute, he conceived and helped complete a groundbreaking study on the size and breadth of Canada’s oil service industry. This encompassed all companies not directly involved in exploration and production companies including midstream and pipeline.
Through Yager Management Ltd., he currently consults as an executive finance and management advisor to oil service companies. He also does research, reports and presentations for companies, trade associations and industry conferences about the current state and future prospects for the upstream oil and gas industry.
David has been active in business journalism and energy policy analysis since 1979. He has authored numerous energy policy position papers for industry trade associations and currently writes a monthly analysis on various aspects of the upstream oil and gas industry for on-line publication EnergyNow.ca. He is a regular commentator about the industry in newspapers, magazines, TV and radio. David is currently writing a book about the future for Alberta and its most important industry in the post-carbon era. “From Miracle to Menace – Alberta, A Carbon Story”, will be released in early 2019.
